    | After the tragic end of Loria's life, we received many cards and letters
 from
      friends and family.
We also received many of them
 from people
      in Loria's
      life that we
never had the pleasure of meeting.
 We
      sincerely appreciated
all of them as they were received
 and continue to
      appreciate them now,
 as we re-read them often.

      very special people.

    | September 11, 2001 "The
NC State community is greatly saddened at the passing of your daughter,
Loria.  As a senior, Loria had become a cherished member of the NC
State family, and was a good friend to her colleagues in Industrial
Engineering and the College of Engineering.  We have lost a tremendous
    student and a future leader."

"Working with Loria at Alcatel, we shared an
office together.  Loria was my friend as we played volleyball together
and talked about things in our lives.  I always told her how proud I
was of her accomplishments.  We will all miss Loria and I will pray for
you and your family through this time of grief."

      January 2, 2002 "I am a graduate student at NCSU and I
had your daughter Loria in my Introduction to Simulation class last spring,
which I co-taught with Dr. Jim Wilson.  It was the first time I had to
teach my own class and I was very nervous about it.  I got to know
Loria well and she would come to see me every week during my office hours.
I would often ask her how the class was going and she would always respond
with words of kindness and encouragement.
During the semester, Dr. Wilson and I requested the students to complete a
simulation project.  When Loria first came to me and told me about her
project idea, I knew that it would be a difficult undertaking.  There
was no doubt in my mind, however, that Loria would be able to tackle the
project and see it through to the end.  And she did just that.
She worked extremely hard for many weeks to complete her project and I was
very impressed not only with what she had learned and accomplished, but with
her determination as well.  She was the perfect role model for any
    student.

I had planned to attend the graduation ceremonies on December 19th and tell
you all this in person, but I was unable to due to an unexpected
appointment.  I wanted to express to you how truly happy I am that I
had the opportunity to meet and get to know Loria.  She had such a
positive effect on my life and I will never forget her."
